OK, since not everyone has a paint sprayer I did a bunch of these with a roller. The coverage was not as good with this. I think two coats, even three are necessary to get good coverage this way. One thought is you could do a base coat with primer then top coat with another color.

Let me add that there is paint everywhere, before you run out to the paint store look in garages, basements, yard sales etc. Seriously, there is a ton of paint just laying around and better to use it up on this sort of project than let it get dumped and pollute the earth. You'll probably have to buy primer, but the paint you can probably score for free.
